Spyderco - Police 4 Lightweight - Burgundy - Micro-Melt PD#1
Limited edition Sprint Run.
The Spyderco Police 4 Lightweight is a heavy-duty EDC knife and is an evolution of the now-classic Police 1.
The Police 4 has a full-flat-ground plain edge blade made of Micro-Melt® PD#1 tool steel. This steel is one of the few air-hardened steels, the advantage of air hardening is that the steel cooling process is much more controllable than with oil or water cooling, for example. This allows you to control specific properties such as hardness, toughness and durability. In addition, this steel is produced with the Micro-Melt powder metal process, which ensures an ultrafine and extremely homogeneous grain structure. All this results in a high-quality steel with unprecedented durability, long edge retention and excellent toughness.
This steel is a carbon steel this is why it can oxidize if not maintained. The blade is coated with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating. This coating gives the blade its beautiful black color, but it also has a number of positive effects on the blade. By protecting the steel from external conditions, the blade becomes more corrosion resistant. In addition, the coating reduces friction during cutting.
The handle of the Police 4 features stainless steel liners covered with fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) scales. The scales not only make the knife surprisingly light, but have a fantastic grip due to the integrated pattern. The scales are Burgundy colored, named after the wine (region) from France.
The Police 4 features a Back Lock, which is a locking system on the back of the handle. This uses a tilt mechanism rotating on a hinge in the center of the arm. A lip on one side of the arm drops into a notch on the back of the blade to lock the blade in the open position.
The knife is equipped with a four-position pocket clip.
