Cutlery in the Middle Ages was not the set as we are used to. The knife was larger and sharper so that it could not only be used to cut food on your own plate, but also to cut meat, for example.

A spoon or a eating prime was used to skewer the cut food and bring them to the mouth. A fork, on the other hand, was two-toothed and was mainly used to "scoop" and to keep meat or fish in place while it was cut.
