Dutch Ovens

A Dutch Oven is a pan made entirely of cast iron. The pan owes its name to an Englishman who saw in the Netherlands how pans made of cast iron were made with sand molds. A true Dutch heirloom, then.

Although it is actually a typical Dutch pan, it has been somewhat forgotten in the Netherlands. In America and Germany, for example, the Dutch Oven is still immensely popular and fortunately we see that in the Netherlands and other countries the popularity is increasing again.

That the Dutch Oven is still being used and is becoming increasingly popular is not surprising. It is a very versatile pan that can be used in all directions. It is perfect for cooking outdoors on a campfire or barbecue, but you can also use it indoors. The Dutch Oven is suitable for all heat sources.

With a Dutch Oven you can easily prepare the most delicious dishes. Because the pan is made entirely of cast iron, heat is well retained and evenly distributed. You can therefore use it to make roasts or stews, but also to bake bread. The lid has a raised rim so you can also put coals on it. Because the heat then comes from above and below, you turn your Dutch Oven into a real oven.

Maintenance

To ensure that your Dutch oven lasts a long time, it is important that you maintain your cast iron pan properly. Cast iron is a very brittle material. By always greasing the pan with oil, you ensure that the cast iron remains in optimal condition. Use a natural oil for this and don't forget to include the lid and outside of the pan while greasing. While cooking, use enough oil for frying and only rinse the pan with hot water. The oil left in the pan creates a natural non-stick coating that is renewed with each use.
